The CAM-UP project
Project Title: Optical Content Addressable Memories for Ultra fast Address Look-UP
Principal Investigator: Dr. Christos Vagionas
Dep. Informatics, Aristotle Univ. Thessaloniki
Summary
optical routing is still heavily dependent on energy-hungry, cost-expensive and time-delaying o/e/o conversions and electronic T-CAM based AL,imposing latencies fundamentally rooted to the hardware. These are bound to manifest in next generation routers, keeping capacities and radixes restrained, unless the hardware T-CAMs “come-up” with a large advancing step. This is where the project CAM-UP steps in to prepare the necessary photonic upgrade for Internet core routers, to perform ultra-fast AL searches directly in the optical domain. During this project, all the photonics alternatives of T-CAM-based architectures will be developed, to allow AL tables to truly “CAM-UP” (speed up) and be able to handle high-radix inter-connections between high-bandwidth optical links energy efficiently
The work has received funding from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT), through the CAM-UP project under grant agreement No 230
